Lace, light fitting, soundtrack, 2000.
A room-sized square of lace curtains hangs in the middle of the gallery space. The only light comes from a single light bulb suspended behind the curtains, casting faint floral shadows across the walls and floor. The sound of pigeons cooing and flying pans restlessly back and forth around the space.
This piece originally formed part of a solo exhibition entitled ‘Remote Sensing’ which was developed during a residency in Tasmania, Australia during 2000. Addressing displacement and notions of ‘home’, it is intrinsically mobile itself, folding into a small hold-all. It was re-installed at Oriel Davies Gallery in 2004.
